Are men protectors?
on Dharma and gender
Mental Rigidity is said to be one of the many signs of LOW IQ.
Patriarchal statements, online gender-spheres or political communities embody the soul of rigidity,
the loud noise of “men are protectors” is just that.
Protection; is any measure taken to guard something against damage or harm caused by outside forces and protector is whoever takes those measure(s), whether for one’s own self or for others.
but, what if the very people to whom we try to assign that act as an universal duty become the reason why we need that act ?
The question arises not because the modern man went through some kind of evolution but cause the statement was always fundamentally wrong.
Protectiveness is not the child of manhood or masculinity,
it take its birth from survival and support itself on morality.
Before we placed the first brick of civilization we learnt how to sustain, preserve, and guard it,
we inherited the reflex of reaching out instead of, letting it fall.
People who cling to these statement are answerless to all the available statistics and societal observations,
If men are protectors, why was she killed by her husband?
why their absence bring relief but not their presence?
why did the father sell his daughter?
why won’t you allow your sister out past 7pm?
why did the teacher violate his student?
why was a teen girl stalked by an adult male?
why does India rank 1. For acid attacks globally?
If men are protectors then why are so many of them predators ?
Endless questions and the answer does not reside in a teen boy’s fantasy.
Protection is not proportional to the amount of physical strength one can exert, it’s a responsibility rooted is realization, control and empathy.
If one can’t understand how the harm they see or refuse to act upon may affect them, strength becomes a seed without the means to grow.
and protection is not extreme-edge violence, it can be
Confrontations, indirect acts, small habits, reactions, actions,
choosing whom to sit and stand with.
They are all in one way or other, guarding the social-fabric.
Men of our society cling to the beliefs and statements of other societies or faiths due to hostility towards their own women or for simple rush of superiority fed on delusion, it would not bring your faith benefit or for that fact, not even your own self on an individual level.
Dharma in Hinduism, denotes behaviours that are considered to be in accord with principle of natural order and custom that make life and the universe possible,
Although i may not agree or support many words and messages in The Manusmirit, i won’t discard its right lessons either,
Manusmriti 8.15 state - धर्म एव हतो हन्ति धर्मो रक्षति रक्षितः।
तस्माद्धर्मो न हन्तव्यो मा नो धर्मो हतोऽवधीत्
(Dharma, when violated, destroys; dharma, when protected, protects. Therefore, do not destroy dharma, lest destroyed dharma destroy you)
The message emphasizes on upholding dharma- the right behaviours and morals that could sustain life and creation.
It does not talk about gender, custom, culture, caste or region,
it merely and merely tells the consequences of your actions towards dharma,
And please, this post is not being written as an answer to some argument or debate but as a form of effort to bring some to sense from the realm of ignorance,
as the rigidity that grows from it harms dharma and if you chose to
be the propagator of destruction, you were never the protector.
The pedestal these groups place themselves on
shatter under the softness of a mother’s touch,
the first shadow of guard human beings remember, if not all then most,
is of a mother.
Mothers, they transcend all the limits,
that of power, control, law, society, or language.
It's not born from a contract; it is woven into the very fabric of motherhood,
an instinct residing in divinity.
Protection doesn’t become a mere obligation but also, a biological inevitability.
Faith just like science, has embedded this truth in itself.
Shaktism,
is a major Hindu denomination,
In which, the divine feminine is reversed as the protector and nurture of all.
if masculinity was the ultimate symbol of protection
Mothers wouldn't exist,
Lovers wouldn’t exist,
The warriors wouldn’t cry of their goddess,
The kings wouldn’t bow to her,
The gods wouldn't have called for her,
The Trishul wouldn’t be in her hand
Or, The garland of skulls on her neck.
The existence of this tradition is an evidence protection, and morality were never, are not and never will be gender-specific duty, ( at least ) in the Dharmic/Indian society.
